This morning we awoke to the sounds of falling rain.
On rooftops and leaves, soft splatters and splashes and plops
so gentle I had to listen twice to see if I had heard what I thought I had.
The kind of morning that invites one to sip a cup of tea
while snuggled with a blanket and maybe a pekingese or two.
The redbud trees, with their bright yellow autumn leaves,
have now grown tall enough
to be visible through an upstairs window.
The leaves and the window frame have made a beautiful picture.
This morning's rain has sent many of the yellow redbud leaves
to the lawn below, where they lay plastered atop wall and walkway.
