Groundhog's Day 2014

Here's one of the first  reasons
to appreciate February: Groundhog's Day.
When I was a kid, I looked forward to Punxsutawney Phil's
prognostications about the weather.
I always hoped that he would come out of his den on a cloudy morning
so he wouldn't see his shadow.
Then I'd be disheartened when Phil  would emerge into the sunshine,
forecasting 6 more weeks of winter.

Now I just mark the day by watching the Groundhog's Day movie
and eating pastries, a la Bill Murray in the scene
where he realizes there are no consequences
for over-indulging on donuts and cakes.
And if you can't over indulge on a cloudless day in mid-winter,
when can you?
Right, Phil?
