Sometimes, late at night or in the wee hours of the morning,
I hear an owl softly hooting from its perch in a distant tree.
According to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries,
the types of owls we're most likely to see
in the maritime forests and swamps of Tidewater
are the screech owl, the great horned owl, and the barred owl.

Owls have a reputation for being mysterious,
wise, and spooky.
They are often depicted as the companions of witches and magicians
and practitioners of the dark arts.
So join me tomorrow--
I'll share some of the the things I've learned about owls in folklore
and show you some fun owl motifs for fall.
