Songs of Spring

In my house, there is a quiet room
with a line of three windows that face east.
It's a good spot for having a cup of coffee
and watching the morning sun grow brighter.

As on many mornings, this morning I sat with my coffee and watched the sun.
But this time, a robin serenaded me.
It flew to the highest peak of an evergreen tree in our front yard
and sang a strong and vibrant song.
So strong, in fact, that I looked twice to make sure it wasn't a mockingbird.

And because the day was very much like early spring,
I ate breakfast near the open back door.
A wren sang its little heart out the whole time.
There's something special about spring.
