7 Wonders, No. 1

Seven days of the week, lucky seven,
seven wonders of the world--
there is something magical about the number seven.
According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica,
one reason for seven's significance is
that it combines the spiritual number three
with the material number four.
Brittanica also describes seven
as the number of subjects comprising the liberal arts,
and seven as the number of notes in a musical scale.

All very interesting, so I thought it would be fun to devote
some blog space to 7 beautiful things
that are common in our daily lives but whose magnificence is often overlooked.
So today, Wonder No. 1: Birds
black or brown

Cardinal red:

Bluebird blue:

Or one of my favorites: the yellow and black goldfinches:

Brilliant colors, lighter than air,
 beautiful songs,
messengers of the soul ...
pretty wonderful.
