Autumn Fires

Robert Louis Stevenson wrote a verse
called Autumn Fires that goes like this:

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The gray smoke towers. ...

There's one more verse in which he glories
over summer's end and autumn's beginning.

The other night, the air smelled of wood  smoke
from fireplaces lit,
the moon was full and silver,
and the sounds of the high school marching band
wafted across the breeze.

Very much a sign of "pleasant summer over."
